About
We Are the PeriodGiving Collective
We are a growing collective of everyday heroes, united by a single belief: radical generosity can and will end period poverty. We exist to connect, resource, and amplify anyone who is advancing menstrual justice every single day.
Our Mission
To activate and amplify radical generosity to advance menstrual justice and community action worldwide
Our Story: How a Conversation Sparked a Movement
The PeriodGiving Collective was born from community care. It began within the GivingTuesday Africa Hub as a conversation among movement leaders from across the continent who saw the same pattern: incredible, passionate work on menstrual justice was happening in silos. Activists felt isolated, underfunded, and fatigued.
We saw an opportunity to reframe the narrative. Rooted in a feminist perspective, we asked: what if we stopped talking only about poverty and started celebrating the immense generosity already present in this work? What if we connected these leaders, gave them a shared identity, and amplified their efforts on a global stage?
From this, the #PeriodGiving hashtag and the Collective were born, launched as a year-round call, demonstrating that kindness can be the ultimate disruptor and a powerful tool for cultural shift.
Our Values
Our work is guided by five core principles that define how we show up for our communities and each other.
Radical Generosity
We believe every act of giving matters time, talent, funds, or voice and we celebrate them all.
Unyielding Dignity
We use people-first language and center the lived experiences of people who menstruate in all our work.
Community-Led Action
We listen to, trust, and resource the local leaders who know their communities best.
Courageous Narrative Change
We break the silence by creating platforms for powerful, authentic storytelling.
Ambitious Systems Change
We connect local giving to the global fight for policy change in schools, workplaces, and governments.
Our Approach
We champion “periodgiving” – the idea that giving (time, products, money, or support) can combat period poverty in ways policy and awareness alone cannot. We harness the power of positive action: thanking period heroes, celebrating solutions, and inviting everyone to contribute.
PeriodGiving operates as a collective. We don’t replace existing efforts – we unite them. We work alongside menstrual health NGOs, women’s rights groups, schools, companies and individuals. Through cross-sector collaboration, we amplify impact. We actively recruit new members to our alliance, believing we’re stronger together. (Interested organizations can join us – we welcome you!).
Our approach is global and continuous. We integrate with international observances – from International Women’s Day to Menstrual Hygiene Day – to highlight menstrual equity. And we’re establishing our own PeriodGiving Day; a yearly celebration of generosity in menstrual health. But we don’t wait for big days alone.
PeriodGiving encourages everyday engagement: carry an extra pad in January, host a workshop in July, run a fundraiser in November. Every season offers a chance to give. And because language and culture vary, we emphasize regional flexibility: our resources are easy to adapt into local languages and customs.
Our inclusive, global approach ensures a schoolgirl in Kampala, a mother in Lagos, and a nonbinary teen in Johannesburg all feel this movement is for them.
Our Commitment to Safeguarding and Dignity
The safety, dignity, and agency of our community members are paramount. We are committed to creating inclusive, respectful, and empowering spaces for all participants. Our actions are guided by principles of do-no-harm, informed consent, and strength-based framing, ensuring our work empowers, not exploits.
